Located 22 kilometers from the Jammu and Kashmir state capital of Srinagar, Dachigam National Park forms almost half of the Dal Lake's catchment area. One of India's famous wildlife sanctuaries, the park boasts a wonderful variety of game and birdlife in its numerous habitats. The park is the natural habitat for hangul stag, the endangered species of red deer in the world. Added to this, the park is also home to other animals typical to the state such as musk deer, black or brown bear, leopards and migratory birds. You can find a trout fish farm in the sanctuary. One of the biggest natural reserves in India, Dachigam National Park is a favorite with the wildlife enthusiasts. In order to explore the park you will have to obtain permission from the wildlife authorities.

The Jasrota Wildlife Sanctuary in the state of Jammu and Kashmir is situated right on the banks of river Ujh, northwards of village Jasrota. The park supports a mixed variety of birds as well as animal life. Cheetal or axis deer is the most remarkable among them and is common throughout the park and are found in large concentrations. The entire area mainly sustains bamboo plantations.
The Jasrota Wildlife Sanctuary is rich in Flora which is dominated by bamboo plantations. The main species found are Dalbergia Sissoo, Acacia Catechu A.Arabica, Lannea Grandis etc. Major shrub associates are Carisa spinarum, Lantana camara and Dodonea Visacosa. The sanctuary is the Natural Habitat for a wide variety of mammals. Notable amongst them are cheetal, Barking deer, wild boar and rhesus monkey. Among the Avifauna found in the sanctuary include a rich variety of pheasants and other resident and migratory birds. The important species are peafowl, red jungle fowl, jungle bush quail, green pigeon and blue rock pigeon. The best season for bird viewing is March to May and mammal viewing is September to March. While in the sanctuary, it is advisable to have trekking shoes, raincoat, and light clothing during spring and summer. In winter trekking shoes, heavy woolens, waterproof windcheaters should be kept. The nearest airport from Jasrota Wildlife Sanctuary is in Jammu, which is 65 kms away. The nearest railhead is Jammu. Ramnagar National Park
Occupying an area of 31 sq km, Ramnagar Wildlife Sanctuary is located only 6 kms away from the Jammu city. The sanctuary harbors 8 mammal species which includes nilgai, and barking deer, wild boar, rhesus monkey etc. The sanctuary supports Indian Mynah, blue rock pigeon, peafowl, red jungle fowl, jungle crow, golden oriole, white cheeked bulbul. In addition to these the reserve is host to 15 species of birds. The best season for bird viewing is March to May and mammal viewing is September to March. You will find a two bed-roomed hut within the reserve. The reserve has an altitudinal range of 430 to 611 meters above sea level.
It is very easy to reach the sanctuary. Nearest airport is Jammu which is 8 kms from the sanctuary. Nearest railhead is Jammu. Among the Avifauna found in the Park are Indian Mynah, peafowl, blue rock pigeon, jungle crow, red jungle fowl, golden oriole, white cheeked bulbul.
